When Lianne Garmson first started as an Educator with MercyCare, any photos taken at the centre were taken on a digital camera, then the memory card was taken to Kmart for the photos to be processed.
These days Lianne takes quick snaps of children enjoying their day at our Heathridge Early Learning Centre and uploads them onto a communication app where parents can take a look at what their children are up to in almost real time.
This year marks 18 years that Lianne has worked as an educator with MercyCare and she says while the technology educators have access to may have changed, the end philosophy has always been the same.
“We’re here for the children, to give them the best possible care and learning through play-based experiences, making sure it’s fun,” she said.
Lianne has a total of 22 years’ experience in childcare and she joined MercyCare at our Wembley Early Learning Centre in 2002, before joining the Heathridge team three and a half years ago.
She’s spent time working with all the different age groups during her time as an educator and loves seeing the children grow.
Lianne said while time spent caring for young babies carrying out practical tasks one on one such as giving them their bottles, changing nappies and putting them down for naps was always special, she also enjoys watching children develop.
“I just love seeing their little personalities blossoming away,” Lianne said.
Recognising the individual needs of each child and catering for them, fosters growth and confidence and is a special part of the role of educators.
Lianne says her team also works together really well, which makes coming to work a pleasant experience.
Working in early learning has been a fulfilling experience for her.
“We get to build strong relationships with the children and their families and then see younger siblings come through with the older siblings coming to say “hello” at pick-up time, it’s a lovely process to be involved in,” Lianne said.
