The community-led Mirrabooka Community Markets celebrates Mirrabooka’s diversity with a unique, grass roots market showcasing authentic food, arts and crafts and uplifting entertainment from around the world.
Beginning in the summer of 2019/20, the Thursday-night markets were held at the Yirrigan Drive carpark at The Square Mirrabooka.
The season of markets regularly attract around 2000 people with more than 100 stallholders.
The Markets provides local families, and the wider Perth community, an evening activity that brings the community together during the warm summer nights to celebrate and share.
It is also an opportunity for local residents to learn new skills, establish a small business and create a sense of community.
MercyCare has offered stallholders workshops including how to run a small business venture; displaying and selling handmade goods; food handling and service and COVID infection control measures. Many culturally and linguistically diverse people participated in workshops, gaining new skills.
The Markets complement the services offered from MercyCare’s Mirrabooka Office, including family support, youth wellness and housing, Step by Step Settlement Service and No Interest Loans services.
The Markets are delivered in partnership by MercyCare, City of Stirling and The Square Mirrabooka and funded by City of Stirling, Lotterywest and Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand.
