The program, which is led by Maggie Beer’s experienced trainers, focuses on enhancing the dining, food, hydration, and nutritional experiences of people living in aged care. It covers areas like improving the dining experience, maximising flavour, rethinking texture-modified foods, and high impact cooking techniques.
Taking part over three weeks, MercyCare’s participation in this game-changing program was driven by our Hospitality Services Quality Manager, Sharon Brome.
“Maggie has made it her personal mission to understand how food can impact the brain health and general wellbeing of older Australians, so naturally we jumped at the chance to work with her team for this ground-breaking initiative.” Sharon remarked.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for our chefs to grow their skills and knowledge and create exceptional food that looks and tastes amazing while providing age-appropriate nourishment for our residents.”
At the end of the course the chefs showed off their new skills, displaying their passion and creativity, and even engaging in a friendly competition during the Maggie Beer ‘Master Chef’ cook-off!

1-1 Mentoring for Joondalup RAC
With the success of the course fresh in our minds, we’re excited that MercyCare Residential Aged Care Joondalup has been chosen to receive 1-1 support with the Maggie Beer Trainer Mentor Program. This 12-month program will build the capability of the Chef to source, prepare and serve delicious, nutritious food; enhancing the quality of life for older people living there.
